Tinctures, salves, capsules, and lip balm: while they aren’t the only delivery methods, they’re certainly among the favorites.
These four popular options can be divided into two categories – oral and topical – both have distinct applications.
Oral methods are absorbed through the digestive tract into the bloodstream.
Topicals – salves, lip balms, lotions – are applied directly to the skin and don’t breach the blood barrier.
The delivery method used is a matter of personal preference.
Full-spectrum hemp oil favorites
The bonus of a flavorful tincture, or refreshing fragrance of a lip balm, can help invite full-spectrum hemp oils into a person’s daily routine. For others, the convenience of not having to measure out a specific dosage makes capsules an ideal option.
All individual preferences aside here’s an inside look at consumer favorites.
- Tinctures. Tinctures are concentrated herbal extracts that generally use alcohol as the solvent. We use medium-chain triglyceride oil as our solvent unless otherwise specified. Tinctures come in a wide variety of flavors and potencies: salted caramel, watermelon, peppermint, or no flavor added. Production involves soaking dried hemp flowers and leaves in ethanol to extract the full-spectrum hemp oil, terpenes, and flavonoids. The resulting liquid can then include organic essential oils for flavor, and either be dropped under the tongue (sublingual) or added to food or beverages.
- Capsules. Swallowing this gelatin capsule filled with full-spectrum hemp oil is possibly the most convenient delivery option. Capsules vary based on potency, and, once past the teeth and gums, are processed by the body like tinctures.
- Salves. A salve is a semi-firm lotion. Salves can be scented – cooling menthol is a definite favorite – or unscented and come in different potencies. Our slaves include full-spectrum hemp oil, organic EV coconut oil, organic beeswax, and organic essential oils for scent. The application typically involves massaging a pea-sized amount of salve into the affected area.
- Lip balms. Lip balms are harder than salves and often placed in an applicator for use. Lip balms generally contain ingredients such as beeswax, shea butter, and cocoa butter to give them their consistency and are applied topically to the lips. Dry, cracked lips may experience a restorative boost from full-spectrum hemp oil lip balms. Our lip balms are produced from extracted full-spectrum hemp oils added to a mixture consisting of organic cocoa butter, organic aloe vera gel, organic shea butter, organic beeswax, organic soybean oil.
Choosing your potency
Regardless of the delivery method, it’s important to find the right potency based on your desired effect or condition. Too low, and you might not realize any benefits – too high, and you’ll be buying more than you need. Unfortunately, it’s not quite as simple as that though. Everyone’s needs are different, so the best choice is to start low and decide if the desired effect was achieved and adjust from there.
